¿Escuadrón combinado...o no?

Hi mates! Lately i've been playin' a couple of Vassal games and my last Imperial Guard list has me happy! After some minor adjustments (removing grenadiers doctrine, full melta in platoon command squads, taking another Valkyrie and removing Vanquisher to take Hydras...) I think I've discovered one thing. It's not new... but needed to tell you anyway!

Combined Squadron can be a great ball of shit. Many of you (those who still play strong infantry lists) will tell me. WTF are you talking about? Well, here I go!

Look at the first pic. 8 Zerkers are about to charge into 30 Imperial guys. They will assault the whole unit so we're losing 20 men more in two or three combat phases. Even with commie and power weapons they still got the upper hand in the combat (even more if they assault wisely and get far from one of two of the PW). Furthermore so many guards together are a big-fat objective to fire at, who gets hard to get cover and is very clumsy.

Doesn't matter how do you try, thos guards are dead, very dead. If they are Stubborn won't retreat and will loosing combats and you firing phases for 2 heavy weapons o 2 special ones. So what I do is the "speed bumping"XD.

You get the separated and without commie. Now you put one squad ahead and try not to be eligible for multicharge. Theoretically should look like this. (It's real tactic! In real life there is no troop sacrifice sure! But is the inverted V platoon formation, very typical attack one in WWII).

Now the Zerkers will stomp your advances guards in only one combat phase. Even less powerful units will do that job quickly! The enemy will consolidate and next turn you will be able to pour him a little purifying light! Someone would say that putting one squad ahead makes the enemy able to take cover. But tell me... Who doesn't get cover save in 5?? Long files, stupid tank formations, rhino/razor shields... They got the cover... Now you got the airbag for their assaults. Because I think no one would like to stay in front of you taking fire. Another benefit is splitting fire. If you fire all your weapons on the same objective surely you're about to blow it up. But... why can't you try three times?? If you achieve to destroy with the first squad them you got still firepower to work with!

So I decided not to play with combined squadron and play with them separated.
Do I give more annihilation points? Yeah! But not everything is good in life!
Order are less effective? Also true! But have to do with it if I want to have more survivability for my army. Just look for what you want of your army! When people plays with me usually wants to close in and getting some meat shield can be the difference!

Gracias amigos, decime que pensáis!!

Thanks you all! What do you think about?
